violetflower I’m in the process of taking my old “notperfume” website and turning into an interactive blog where I can post my thoughts more often, keep it simple, and customize it.  I’m doing something special and different here now.  This blog is now covering several subjects I’m very passionate about all rolled into 1.  I’m a wordpress beginner so unfortunately there is a learning curve involved, so please be patient and pardon the dust as I figure out how to build this and create a warm welcoming atmosphere for my organic minded readers.  Since this blog is about being organic and green and I, the author, am chemically sensitive, I’m doing my best to compile all my content and make it as presentable as possible.   If you have a suggestion for a holistic organic product or website/blog that is along the same lines and you would like to do a link trade or you would like me to write and publish a blogpost about it, please feel free to contact me and we will chat about it.

Dear Readers,
Welcome to my beautiful blog.  Life has been hectic for me as a busy writer and Mommy of a special needs toddler, but thankfully my holistic, organic, vegan, self-care self-love keeps me sane and on an even keel.  Thankfully I rediscovered art therapy and I have always enjoyed it, especially rainbows. I love drawing rainbows. I’m nurturing my inner child and it helps a lot and my son smiles and loves watching me draw. I pray he will want to draw very soon, but for now I’m happy to share my creativity spark with him.  I’m working on a few new special wonderful writing projects and two of them are for children.  Both will inspire children and parents and the beautiful mystical stories will entertain and educate.  For the moment, I want to give back to the community, specifically to parents whose children are now back to school.  I’m doing a giveaway that will begin this week and continue until the first week of November.   I encourage everyone to enter, especially hard working parents who need healthy tips for organic beauty and delicious, healthy, gluten-free, vegan recipes to help you cook for your family with ease and less stress and make everyone happy.  My two ebooks – organic beauty and delicious, organic, vegan, gluten-free cookbook –

I’m very thankful for my wonderful connections I’ve made on Twitter since I first joined, five years ago, and I am very thankful for everything I’ve learned about social media, especially as a hard working holistic vegan author.  A few days ago, I was thinking back to when I had been on Twitter for a year and I felt sad that I had to work hard to reach 500 followers and I laughed and smiled realizing that I’ve now surpassed 6000 followers, woo hoo! Yay! This is so wonderful and I feel so thankful and excited about this accomplishment.  I’m celebrating with an awesome Gleam giveaway.  This blogpost you are reading describes the giveaway and the rules are explained on the gleam website in order to enter.  Three lucky winners will receive copies of both ebooks. To learn more about the giveaway and enter, please scroll down to the bottom of this post.

I wrote two life-changing books that have the potential to touch and help many people from many walks of life.  My first book, Keep Your Vanity Without Losing Your Sanity, teaches men and women how to enjoy organic, natural, nontoxic beauty completely free of toxic petrochemicals and how to vote with your wallet and keep your carbon footprint very small.  My second book, Tasty Herbal Vegan Kitchen, contains more than 100 delicious, simple, easy to make, organic vegan recipes that are kid friendly and wonderful stress-reducing comfort foods. Since I’ve been gluten-free for nearly a year and I know many families are gluten-free, I’m in the process of revising my cookbook to be gluten-free and the three lucky winners will receive the new revised copy before it’s published.

Both books are being sold on Amazon Kindle for $9.99 and Amazon Createspace in paperback, the vegan cookbook for $12.38 and the organic beauty book for $21.38.  Both books are very special to me and I worked very hard to write and compile them and I’m giving one copy each to 3 lucky winners in this Gleam giveaway.  I stress very strongly that you need to read the rules very carefully and follow them to the letter so that you will qualify and make your entries count.

Here is an excerpt from this book that I’m showcasing all over my social media platforms.

Here is an excerpt from a chapter from my organic beauty ebook…
“There’s no reason that you can’t have fun in a non-toxic earth friendly manner. Pure organic plant essences are safer for the environment and the recycled packaging they come in can either be reused or recycled. The cheap inexpensive little makeup applicators you find in the bargain stores are better off ignored.”

Here is a delicious organic vegan recipe from my cookbook…
These delicious gluten free  vegan chocolate chip cookies are amazing!  My family loves these, including my fussy special needs toddler son.

Yum Gluten Free Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookies
Ingredients
1 C naturally organic sweetened vegan chocolate chips
2 1/2 C rice flour
1 tsp. xanthan gum
1 tbsp. potato starch
1 tbsp. tapioca starch
1 1/2 C vanilla flavored organically sweetened coconut milk or almond milk or your choice
1/2 C filtered water
1/2 C organic brown sugar
1 C melted Earth Balance
1/2 tsp. sea salt
1 tsp. organic vanilla
Instructions:  1 of the many things I love about this recipe is it’s very easy and simple to make.  I’ve been cooking delicious vegan meals for 20 years, but I have very little experience with baking cookies, but lately I’ve had so much practice baking cookies because my 2 cookie monsters – my dear husband and our adorable beautiful munchkin toddler son – love my cookies and I can’t seem to bake enough.  They are devoured and enjoyed in a week days! 😀 LOL I enjoy them too but wow, they eat them up fast!  The recipe is simple.  First, I pre-heat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.  You can either pour all the dry ingredients into a large bowl and all the wet ingredients into another separate bowl or you can pour them into the same bowl.  I discovered that both methods work, but you can do what works for you.  Stir the dry ingredients a bit and then pour in and mix the wet and dry together thoroughly.  I use a wonderful mixer with 2 spin blades and it’s very effective.  It makes it much easier.  It’s very helpful.  I mix on high and then as I move the blades through the batter, I pause to let the blades spin and allow the batter to move around so the mixer doesn’t burn out.  I repeat this process 3 or 4 times until the batter is nice and smooth and blended very well.  I then gently spoon several lumps on to my cookie sheets, spaced 2 – 3 inches apart, and get ready to put them in the oven.
I leave the temperature at 400 to save time, but you can keep yours at 375 or 350 or even 400, if you prefer.  Everyone’s oven is different and everyone’s preference is different.  I happily discovered that gluten free cookies take less time to bake than gluten cookies, thank goodness.  I baked ours tonight and it finished baking in less than 30 minutes, wonderful! 🙂  When the cookies turn light brown and begin to sizzle, I know they are done and you will, too.  When they finished baking, I took them out and let them cool on the stove.  It’s weird because at first, they were soft and chewy and then they aired out and turned into rocks, omg! LOL but it’s ok, don’t lose hope, just warm them in the microwave for 1 minute or in the oven or toaster oven for 5 minutes and they will be warm and nice and chewy.  One thing I discovered is if you monitor the baking very closely and time it well and you check them with a fork while they are moderately chewy but not doughy, they will come out just right.  These delicious cookies are a wonderful treat and you can enjoy them any time, especially when you need a nice comfort treat.  It’s 1 of the few snacks my fussy toddler loves.  Enjoy!

Enjoy A Healthy Earth Day Celebration Everyday

Enjoy A Healthy Earth Day Celebration Everyday

I’ve been a holistic organic nature girl for 25 years and now I’ve enjoyed this natural living lifestyle as a Mommy for 5 years.  I’m very grateful for the natural folk medicine wisdom I’ve learned over the years and I’m able to enjoy delicious healthy choices I make and keep my carbon footprint very small.  As a special tribute to Earth Day, April 22, I’d like to offer some very helpful tips to help you save money and protect your family’s health.  It’s much easier than you might think to feel good, stay healthy, and save money. My family is a good living example of how just making a few simple adjustments in your lifestyle choices can make it possible and enjoyable.

There are many ways to be a compassionate responsible earth steward and make a positive contribution to the world.  An earth steward is a person who makes the conscious decision to make wise choices and decisions that affect his or her local world and is careful that these choices and decisions help the planet.

1.  Go vegan.  Did you know that the amount of water required to produce 1 burger could float a battleship? #quote Howard Lyman ex-4th generation cattle rancher turned vegan

2.  Become a holistic herbalist and eschew bigpharma.  Did you know that more than 50% of the ingredients in over the counter and prescription medications contain toxic petrochemicals which are derived from crude oil, i.e., the gas in your tank?  Natural plant herbs, such as chamomile, lavender, lemongrass, peppermint, garlic, and ginger are much safer and healthier and don’t require any factory processing.  You simply pull them wild from the ground, and chop them and brew an herbal tea or press them to make a nice lovely herbal mixture.

3.  Buy organic as often as possible.  When you buy organic, you’re not just voting with your wallet, contributing to a  more socially conscious economy, you’re also protecting your family’s health, and you’re saying NO to crude oil, which is what pesticides contain.

4.  Think globally, act locally.  There is much to be said about supporting local businesses and contributing to a much smaller carbon footprint.  Every time you purchase a product that needs to be shipped and delivered, you are contributing to more consumption of crude oil being used as fuel.  Buying locally is much better because your dollars are only going toward purchasing a product; they’re not going toward paying for the delivery fuel.

5.  Wear organic or wear nothing.  Did you know that the ingredient “fragrance” that’s in cosmetics and personal care products contain at least 5,000 petrochemicals, none of which have been tested or scrutinized by the U.S. FDA?  Protect your family’s health and become an avid label reader.  If you cannot pronounce an ingredient, pass it by!  Propylene glycol is a petrochemical that contains anti-freeze, the toxic stuff that is used to protect your car from extreme freezing temperatures and that is commonly found in cosmetics.  Read the label and look for ingredients like peppermint, chamomile, sandalwood, patchouli, ylang ylang, Aloe Vera, and olive oil.  You know these are herbs that grow wild in the ground throughout the world and it’s much safer for you to use them than the toxic stuff!  For more information, please visit my website: http://www.notperfume.com.

6.  As the kosher law states, “if in doubt, do without,” so is the same principle for making purchases of food and cosmetics for your health and well being.  If you cannot pronounce an ingredient and you need to go to the trouble to understand what it means, then it is very likely, this ingredient will harm you and your family and you’re better off without it!

7.  Enjoy the beautiful great outdoors and fresh air and go out and play!  This 1 is pretty self-explanatory, but it is exactly as it sounds.  The best way to honor, respect, and celebrate Mother Earth and all her beautiful wonder is to play in her grass, her trees, playfully interact with her sweet little Elemental beings, the butterflies, dragonflies, frogs, crickets, and turtles, and ducks, and have fun and breathe the fresh clean air!

It is much easier than you might think to be a happy, healthy, smart Earth Steward and it is never too late to start and enjoy it!

I Get By With A Little Help From My Friends

MamaMikeypark

It’s not easy for me to ask this, but my family is struggling financially and we need some help and my dear beautiful son, Michelangelo, “Mikey,” has special needs and is on the spectrum. He has special needs and needs help.  My son is adorable and beautiful and because our state insurance Oregon Health Plan is dysfunctional and stupid, we are not able to have him seen by a holistic health practitioner who can diagnose him and treat him with holistic healing treatments and provide an environment free of harmful scented products that contain neurotoxins.  If you are unaware of what I am referring to, please go to http://www.notperfume.com  My dear husband and I are heart broken and it pains us deeply that we are caught between a rock and a hard place and we urgently need help.  Please read our GoFundMe campaign to read our painful story and donate to our cause.  https://www.gofundme.com/helpsavemyfamily    Thank you for your kindness.

Win Win Proposal If You Believe in my Holistic Organic Mission to Help Autistic Children

vansanMamaMikeypark

I wrote a special important book that teaches men and women from all walks of life how to enjoy organic nontoxic green beauty and it’s all from a holistic approach. The focus is to help people improve their health and vote with their wallet and reduce their carbon footprint. This is not my actual sales page. This blogpost is a reachout, a plea, a call to action to help me help people and help my son.  You can read my sales page here:  Organic Beauty Book

I’m doing my best on my own with managing my blog where I share wonderful holistic self-care beauty tips and I promote my book here and I promote it on social media – fb, twitter, etc., but my hands are full with my delayed near 4yo toddler and I’m doing my best to get on the journey to healing wellness and recovery from the painful candida I’m enduring, I very much need help from other green, organic minded, aware people who believe in my mission. Unfortunately, I’m not in a position to pay anyone, but I’m more than happy to share the royalties and sales with anyone who falls in love with this book and believes in and supports my mission. You see, my beautiful adorable son is developmentally delayed in communication and my dear husband and I intuitively believe that it was caused by exposure to high levels of overpowering, toxic, poisonous, synthetic, adulterated fragrance products and it screwed up his wiring.  A lot of the toxic exposure was from the psychotic evil hospital where I labored and gave birth to him and it’s a Miracle that I was able to give birth to my son even though I could barely breathe with all the overpowering horrendous toxic perfume in the air, suffocating my lungs. That alone makes my beautiful adorable son a Miracle baby. <3 <3 <3 We are in the process of raising funds so that he can be seen by a local naturopath holistic doc to help him. My son is very healthy and strong and he’s thriving, it’s just that he needs help in some communication areas.

It is my desire for this book to reach a very wide global readership and help people from all walks of life and it is especially important to me that parents, teachers, and other professionals who work with special needs and children who don’t have special needs to understand how toxic fragrance products are a serious culprit and a big cause of the terrible autism problem. More and more people are waking up to the fact that fragrance causes painful health problems and health hazards and they are voting with their wallets and are making the healthy switch to green safe organic personal care and cosmetics. I am very receptive to all helpful ideas, all I ask is that you be gentle and kind and patient with me and remember that I’m a writer, not a tech nerd. I’m writing on a Mac computer, I’m not using a phone. I’m a very old fashioned 70’s kid. ???? I have a wonderful wordpress blog, but I am working with very basic tools.  Please feel free to contact me with your thoughts and ideas, thank you for listening. <3 You can send me an Email and you can follow me on social media by following me via the social media buttons and click to follow on the righthand side of my blog.  Peace Love Gratitude Blessings

Organic Natural Beauty

blueflower

Organic natural beauty is a precious gift and yet it is completely unappreciated and misunderstood. In a world where people are constantly bombarded with commercials telling them which cool new makeup to wear or which new vibrant glowing shampoo to buy, it’s no wonder that men and women often feel inadequate and insecure about their appearance.

True natural beauty isn’t found in a bottle of shampoo that’s loaded with 5,000 petrochemicals and irritants. True natural beauty is found in a mint leaf or a lemongrass plant. Chemically laden perfume and cosmetics are not the solution to having youthful wonderful beauty. There’s nothing beautiful or sexy about a product that contains a toxic soup of chemicals.

True beauty is found in a blend of organic essential oils, such as sandalwood oil, rose hips oil, lemongrass oil, aloe vera gel, and chamomile oil that when mixed form a wonderful blend that creates a silky beautiful shampoo and cheek blush color that enliven the skin cells, not suffocate them. Your skin is the largest organ in your body and it absorbs everything you put on it. It’s wise then to only put earth friendly healthy plant pigments on your skin so your internal organs are safe and healthy.

Turn off your television and put away the stinky perfume magazines. Either take some time to go on the Internet and learn how to live in a non-toxic earth-friendly manner or drive to the nearest health food store and learn about earth-friendly products that are safe enough to drink and won’t destroy your organs and skin cells.

Wear Organic or Wear Nothing

Hello everyone,

Welcome to my new and improved NotPerfume blog.  The name is exactly what it sounds like.  This blog centers around anything that is not perfume. As an asthmatic chemically sensitive injured canary, I’ve been painfully exposed to a plethora toxic soup that in 20 years is a cumulative 15,000 toxic petrochemicals from fragrance and scented products.  This is no exaggeration and anyone who reads this and suffers from the mcs – multiple chemical sensitivity illness – will understand and agree.  It pains me that I even have to put this blog together, but sadly, in the 21st Century, while there is a growing renaissance of alternative, holistic, organic free thinkers, there is still much work that still needs to be done.

The name says it all.

Perfume and fragrance are in everything – shampoo, moisturizer, body splash, hairspray, soap, etc. You don’t have to spray it or dab it on your wrist to be exposed to harmful toxic petrochemicals and smell like a perfume factory.  It’s not a question of if, but when you or someone you know will be impacted by the issue of petrochemicals in fragrance and personal care products. This is the sad truth about toxic petrochemical fragrance exposure.

The 21st Century provides tremendous convenience, but much of this so-called “convenience” is in the form of toxic petrochemicals disguised as beauty products and air fresheners or as we refer to them as “air poisoners” that were designed to make you feel and look good. We the population are virtual canaries in a coal mine. Like a “canary in a coal mine,” those who are labeled “sensitive” are the first ones to notice these toxic poisons’ presence.

The beauty of this blog is that while I will be sharing important information about how to avoid toxic fragrance products and why, I will be focused on providing natural healthy solutions to help you feel good and stay well.  The bottom line, the primary focus is to contribute to the solution, not the problem.  This is the bottom line.  Follow the money trail.  The reason why commercial detergent, deodorizers, “air poisoners,” are sold like hot cakes is because they mask the odor instead of cleaning the air.

All the mass produced fragrance products you find in the supermarket, pharmacy, and fragrance stores sell like hot cakes is because the fragrance and big oil industry spend an obscene amount of money – millions, maybe even billions of dollars – to fool people and make them think that these products are beneficial and healthy and safe.

Every week, sometimes everyday, depending on how I am feeling, I will post ideas to help you green your life and product links that I personally use and recommend.  Please stay tuned and visit often.  Thank you for your interest and for caring about the air we breathe.

Peace Love Blessings Gratitude,

Helpful Tips to Get You Started With Organic Beauty

I’m often asked where is a good place to start to enjoy organic beauty and learn to make one’s life green, healthy, organic. There are a few answers to this question and the first 2 answers I always start with are these. 1 of my many self-care mottos in life is “KISS” – keep it simple stupid. No, I’m not calling you stupid. 🙂 I’m gently suggesting that you take an approach of simplicity to make your lifestyle as organic and healthy as possible. The main reason the majority of people in the developed Western world are unhealthy, sick, and feel miserable is they complicate their lifestyle. When I suggest that people learn to become an avid label reader and vote with their wallet, I am being quite literal and sincere. Voting with your wallet is the simplest most important most effective way of enjoying a healthy, holistic, organic lifestyle of self-care.

Here are a few tips to get you started on your journey to holistic organic self-care:

  • Become an avid label reader.
  • Keep a dictionary close by in the beginning when you don’t know the difference between chamomile and mineral oil.
  • Read books like mine, Keep Your Vanity Without Losing Your Sanity and become an empowered aware consumer.
  • Make the conscious important decision to shop at natural health markets like Natural Grocers and Whole Foods and get to know the sections where they sell personal hygiene and cosmetics and household cleansers.
  • Either turn off the television or mute the commercials. The billion-dollar advertisements for commercial detergent and deodorizers are going to confuse you and cause you unnecessary stress.
  • Stock up on gallon bottles of white distilled vinegar and several pound bags of baking soda so you can have plenty on hand for laundry and household cleaning.
  • If you are reading this blogpost then you have Internet access and you have access to social media. Search for Facebook groups and twitter chats for “organic” “holistic” “green”. Make sure you type the key words in the Twitter search with the # pound sign as a #hashtag, for example, #ecomoms #holisticmoms #earthday. My participation in these wonderful groups were very helpful for my finding support from like minded people who understand and share my passion for healthy green living.
  • Get used to keeping your windows open to let the fresh clean outdoor air circulate, providing there are not toxic commercial detergent or deodorizer fumes in the air. This will help you appreciate healthy clean fresh air and you will learn to appreciate what life was like without all the commercial mass marketed toxic offenders.

These are just a few to get you started on the journey, but they will help you a lot and the benefits will help you feel better and you will feel supported and more aware. If you have any questions and would like more information and tips to help you enjoy holistic organic self-care and beauty, please feel free to post your comments to this blogpost and my other blogposts and connect with me on social media. You will find the social media buttons to click on and follow me at on the right hand side of this blog.

Much Love Gratitude Blessings,
